Born in September 1920 in Jerusalem, His family moved to Petah Tikva and in 1936 he became a member of Betar. A year later he joined the Haganah, but was not reconciled to the havlaga (self-restraint) policy and in 1938 moved over to the Irgun.

In 1940 he was sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labor for carrying a weapon.
