(1880-1940)
Born October 18, 1880 in Odessa in the Russian Empire. Renowned as a thinker, statesman, poet and writer, publicist and fighter. Was one of the founders of the Jewish Battalions within the British Army in the First World War. Organized Jewish resistance in Jerusalem during the April 1920 Arab riots; was arrested as a result and sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment with hard labor.
Jabotinsky founded the Betar youth movement and the Revisionist movement. Was the political leader of the Irgun Zvai Leumi in Eretz Israel. His political theory served as the ideological basis for a new Zionist policy, activist and socially-oriented. Composed poems, novels, plays and articles.
Died at the Betar camp in the United States on August 4, 1940.
